 Śrī Lalitā Mahatripurasundarī Upaniṣad

Introduction:- ita a Mystic Upaniṣad

The Upaniṣad Given in Detail the complete Internal Worship Yantrarāj and Lalitāmbā, 

It Starts explaining Paramdhām Maṇidweep to be identical with Śrīchakra then Goes on Describing Human Body relation with Śrīyantra and its Dieties then The Relation of External worship Ritual with internal worshipping


It has 9 Major Verse with Many Sub Verses(in Devnāgrī).. 

for Better understanding the Subverses are Organised inside the Large Heading 


So, lets Start:- 


Verse No. 1


ॐ परमकारणभूता शक्तिः केन नवचक्ररूपो देहः । 

this human body is made resembling the form of nine Chakras (Chakras are energy discs or centres within human body, where particular energy flows),



नवचक्रशक्तिमयं श्रीचक्रम् ।

The 'Shree-Chakra' incorporates all the Nine Shaktis of these Nine Chakras.

Viz:- 4 Shiva Chakras(🔺) and 5 Shakti Chakras (🔻)


पुरुषार्थाः सागराः । 

The four goals of human life (righteousness, finance, sensual dealings, and Liberation) are like an ocean, 


देहो नवरत्ने द्वीपः ।

and in this ocean the body is present like an island located in Nine Gems (the Nine Gems of Nine Chakras).


आधारनवकमुद्राः शक्तयः ।

The Nine Mudraas (expressive styled postures made by hands, body et cetera, during meditation, dance et cetera) of Mooladhara-Chakra are the Shaktis. 


त्वगादिसप्तधातुभिरनेकैः संयुक्ताः सङ्कल्पाः कल्पतरवः । 

The vows combined by the seven elements(lymph, blood, muscle, fat, bone, marrow, and reproductive fluid) are the KalpaVriksha 


तेजः कल्पकोद्यानम् ॥

The vital fire illumination is a beautiful garden.


Explaination:- This Verse describe the realtion between the Human Body with Srichakra and its association with Maṇidweep.. a Island of Gems in Soma Sagar.. in which Ātmā Swaroopā Śrī Lalitā Resides..


Verse No. 2


रसनया भासमाना मधुराम्लतिक्तकटुकषायलवणरसाः षड्रसाः । 

Sweet, sour, spicy, bitter, astringent, salty- these are six tastes tasted by tongue. 


क्रियाशक्तिः पीठं कुण्डलिनी ज्ञानशक्तिरहमिच्छाशक्तिः ।

Work-power is altar, Knowledge-power is Kundalini, and Will-power is I-ness (the quality by which we say 'I' am).


महात्रिपुरसुन्दरी ज्ञाता होता ।

Lalita Tripura Sundari is the knower and the sacrificer (of oblations). 


ज्ञानमर्घ्यं ज्ञेयं हविः ज्ञातृज्ञानज्ञेयानां नमोभेदभावनं श्रीचक्रपूजनम् ॥

Knowledge is Arghya (water offerings to deity to rinse hands and mouth)


the Subject/Topic of that knowledge is the sacred oblations. 


Knower, knowledge, and subject of knowledge, having feeling of discrimination in these three with full respect and humility, is the worship of Shree-Chakra.


Verse No. 3

नियतिसहितश‍ृङ्गारादयो नवरसाः ।

There are nine sentiments- Shringaara etc


Shringaara- love 

Haasya- humour; 

Adbhuta- wonder; Shaanta- peace; 

Raudra- anger; 

Veera- courage; 

Karuna- sorrow; Bhayanaka- fear; 

Veebhatsa- disgust


अणिमादयः कामक्रोधलोभमोहमदमात्सर्यपुण्यपापमया ब्राह्म्यादयोऽष्टशक्तयः ।


There are eight spiritual powers (Anima, Laghima, Mahima, Prapti, Garima, Ishatva, Prakaamya, Vashtva)


the six foe passions (Sensualdesire, Anger, Greed, Attachment, Pride, Jealously)  


two- Paapa (sin, bad deeds) and Punya (Merits, good deeds)- these all eight (six+two); 


the Shakti like Braahmi etc; all these (in total) are the eight Shaktis.


Explaination:- Its Talking about Bhupara of Sriyantra which is the First Āvaraṇ.. Outside it is worashipped Indrādi Devtās(9) as Described in 2.1


In its middle worshipped 8 Siddhis and in inner wall worshipped 8 Matrikas of the form described in 2.2 


आधारनवकमुद्रा शक्तयः । 

The nine Mudraas of Muladhara are Shaktis.


Explaination:- Mudrās as Described in Vāmkeśwar are Sankshobhi, Vidravini, Sarvakrshini etc.. these are Shaktis of Muladhar


This Completes Trailokya Mohan Charkra or 1st Āvaraṇ


पृथ्व्यप्तेजोवाय्वाकाशश्रोत्रत्वक्चक्षुर्जिह्वा- प्राणवाक्पाणिपादपायूपस्थमनोविकाराः षोडशशक्तयः । 

The five elements- Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Ether; 


the five sense organs- Ear, Skin, Eyes, Tongue, Nose; 


the five work organs- Speech, Hands, Feet, Anal path, Genital path; 


And mind- these are the Sixteen Shaktis. 


Explaination:- these 16 Śaktīs starting from Kāmākarṣiṇī to Śarirākarṣiṇī worshipped in Ṣoḍaśdal Kamal or Sarvāśa Purak Chakra of Śrīyantra


वचनादानगमनविसर्गानन्दादानोपादानोपेक्षा- बुद्धयोऽनङ्गकुसुमादिशक्तयोऽष्टौ । 


Speaking, accepting, motion, leaving, enjoying, accepting-offering, neglecting, and intelligence- these eight actions are the eight Shaktis Ananga Kusuma etc 


Explaination:- Now Started 3rd Āvaraṇ or Aṣṭadala Kamal where Goddess starting from Anaṅga Kusum etc are worshipped


अलम्बुषाकुहूविश्वोदरीवरुणाहस्तिजिह्वायशस्विनी- गान्धारीपूषासरस्वतीडापिङ्गलासुषुम्ना चेति चतुर्दशनाडयः सर्वसङ्क्षोभिण्यादिचतुर्दशारदेवताः ॥


Alambusha, Kuhoo, Vishvodari, Varuna, Hasti-Jihvaa, Yashasvini, Gandhari, Pusha, Saraswati, Ida, Pingala, Sushumna- these Nadis are the 14 Shaktis


Explaination:- Now Started 4th Āvaraṇ of 14 Triangles called Sarva Saubhāgya Chakra

Here Śaktīs starting from Sarva Sañkṣobhiṇī to Saravdvanva Kṣayankarī are worshipped


Verse No. 4


प्राणापानव्यानोदानसमाननागकूर्मकृकलदेवदत्तधनञ्जया दशवायवः सर्वसिद्धिप्रदादि बहिर्दशारदेवताः ।

There are 10 kinds of Air viz Praana, Apaana, Vyaan, Udaana, Samaana, Naaga, Koorma, Krikala, DevaDatta and Dhananjaya; these 10 Airs are deities of the outer 10 triangles. 


Explaination:- it is talking the 5th Avaraṇ of 10 triangles named Sarvārth Sādhak Chakra where Śaktīs starting from Sarvasiddhiprade to Sarvsaubhāgya Dāinī are worshipped


एतद्वायुदशकसंसर्गोपाधिभेदेन रेचकपूरकपोषकदाहकाल्पावकामृतमिति प्राणः सङ्ख्यत्वेन पञ्चविधोऽस्ति । 

By composition, coming into contact with these 10 Airs the Praana (vital force air) becomes of five types- Rechaka, Puraka, Poshaka, Daahaka and Alpaavakaamrita


जठराग्निर्मनुष्याणां मोहको भक्ष्यभोज्यलेह्यचोष्यात्मकं चतुर्विधमन्नं पाचयति । 

The Jathara-Agni (abdomen fire) in human body digests these four kinds of food- Bhakshya (masticated), Bhojya (swallowed), Lehya (licked) and Choshya (sucked).


तदा काशवान्सकलाः सर्वज्ञत्वाद्यन्तर्दशारदेवताः ॥

Only then all the deities of the inner 10 triangles are illuminated


Explaination:- Verse 4.2 to 4.4 are for 6th Āvaraṇ called Sarvarakṣākar Chakra consisting of 10 Triangle where Śaktis starting from Sarvagye to Sarvepsitphalaprade are worshipped


Verse No. 5


शीतोष्णसुखदुःखेच्छासत्वरजस्तमोगुणादय वशिन्यादिशक्तयोऽष्टौ । 

Cold, Hot, Happiness, Sorrow, Wish, quality of purity, quality of passion, quality of darkness- these eight are the eight Shaktis 


Explaination:- 7th Āvaraṇ of 8 Triangles called Sarvarogahara Chakra in which Śaktīs from Vaśinī to Kaulinī are worshipped


शब्दस्पर्शरूपरसगन्धाः पञ्चतन्मात्राः पञ्चपुष्पबाणा मन इक्षुधनुर्वल्यो बाणो रागः पाशो द्वेषोऽङ्कुशः । 

Word/Speech, Touch, Vision, Taste, Smell- these are five TanMatras (five subtle elements) which are the five flower-arrows; Mind is the bow of sugarcane; various Mind Prepositions are the arrows; Attachment is the rope; and Disgust is the goad.


Explaination:- These 4 Śaktīs vis Bāṇinī, Chāpinī, Pāśinī and Ankuṣinī worshipped in 8th Āvaraṇ of 7petals(4+3) called Sarvasiddhi Prada Chakra 


अव्यक्तमहत्तत्त्वाहङ्कारकामेश्वरीवज्रेश्वरी- भगमालिन्योऽन्तस्त्रिकोणाग्रदेवताः ॥

Avyakta, Mahat-Tattva and Ahankaara (I-ness) are respectively Kameshvari, Vajreshvari and Bhaga-Malini, the deities of the middle triangle of the Shri-Yantra


Explaination:- the remainaing Dieties of Sarvasiddhi Prada Chakra


Verse No. 6


पञ्चदशतिथिरूपेण कालस्य परिणामावलोकनपञ्चदशनित्याः शुद्धानुरुपाधिदेवताः ।

There are fifteen Nityaa-Shaktis who watch the translation of time in the form of 15 lunar dates- these 15 Nityaas are the pure-form main deities. 


निरुपाधिसार्वदेवकामेश्वरी सदाऽऽनन्दपूर्णा ।

She who is beyond any designation, who is in the form of all the Gods and is always full of eternal bliss, that Goddess is Kameshwari.


स्वात्म्यैक्यरूपललिताकामेश्वरी सदाऽऽनन्दघनपूर्णा स्वात्मैक्यरूपा देवता ललितामिति ॥

She whose soul and Her devotees' souls are in oneness and thus experience the ultimate eternal bliss, that Goddess Lalita Kaameshwari is the Ishta-Devata


Explaination:- Thus completed 9th Āvaraṇ Sarvānandamaya Chakra in which Bhagwatī Lalitā who is Same as Ātmā is Worshipped 


This describe how Lalita(Soul) resides in Yantrarāj(Body)


Verse No. 7


साहित्यकरणं सत्त्वं ।

Coordination and equity of soul to the ultimate soul is purity.


कर्त्तव्यमकर्त्तव्यमिति भावनामुक्ता उपचाराः । 

'To do' and 'Not to do'- being free from this feeling is the worship.


अहं त्वमस्ति नास्ति कर्त्तव्याकर्त्तव्यमुपासितव्यानुपासितव्यमिति विकल्पना । 

'To do' and 'Not to do'- these do not exist. 'To be worshipped' and 'Not to be worshipped'- this is mere fancy (id est it does not exist).


मनोविलापनं होमः ॥

Evanescing the mind within contemplation of Divine is- doing the sacred oblations in fire


Verse No. 8


बाह्याभ्यन्तरकरणानां रूपग्रहणयोग्यतास्तीत्यावाहनम् । 

The inner senses and outer senses have a capability of assuming a form- this is the 'Avahanam'(inviting the deity).              


तस्य बाह्याभ्यन्तरकरणानामेकरूपविषयग्रहणमासनम् । 

Being one form and experiencing only one object from both inner senses and outer senses- this is 'Asanam'(offering of seat to a deity)


रक्तशुक्लपदैकीकरणं पाद्यम् ।

Combining Red and White- this is 'Paadyam'(washing feet of deity).


उज्ज्वलदामोदाऽऽनन्दात्सानन्दनमर्घ्यम् । 

Merriment by the Effulgent Bliss- is 'Arghyam'(offering water to deity to wash face, hands).



स्वच्छास्वतः शक्तिरित्याचमनम् ।

Purity of energy- is 'Achamanam'(offering water to deity to purify mouth).


चिच्चन्द्रमयीस्मरणं स्नानम् । 

Meditation of Chit-Chandra-Mayi (She who is embodied moon of consciousness)- is the 'Snaanam'(bathing of deity).


चिदग्निस्वरूपपरमानन्दशक्तिस्मरणं वस्त्रम् । 

Contemplating upon the Goddess who is in the form of consciousness-fire and is Supreme Bliss- doing this is 'Vastram'(offering clothes to deity).


प्रत्येकं सप्तविंशतिधाभिन्नत्वेन इच्छाक्रियात्मकब्रह्मग्रन्थिमयी सतन्तुब्रह्मनाडी ब्रह्मसूत्रं सव्यातिरिक्तवस्त्रम् । 

The Brahma-Nadi (the divine energy channel or path, within body) which is in form of will and action and has the Brahma-Granthi (the divine node of energy)- this Brahma-Nadi is the 'Yagyopaveetam'(the sacred thread offered to deity).


This very Brahma-Nadi departing itself into 27 parts becomes the extra clothes (offered to deity).


सङ्गरहितं स्मरणं विभूषणम् । 

Being unattached to desires and thus contemplating on the deity- this is 'Abhushanam'(offering jewels and ornaments to deity).



स्वच्छन्दपरिपूर्णस्मरणं गन्धः । 

Independently meditating completely upon the deity- is 'Gandhah'(offering beautiful scent and fragrance to deity).


समस्तविषयाणां मनःस्थैर्येणानुसन्धानं कुसुमम् । 

Inspection of all the subjects (the enjoyments, feelings, knowledge et cetera) with stabilising the mind- doing this is 'Pushpam'(offering of flowers to deity).


तेषामेव सर्वदा स्वीकरणं धूपः । 

Always accepting those subjects- is 'Dhoopah'(offering of incense fumes to deity).


पवनाच्छिन्नोर्ध्वज्वालासच्चिदाह्लादाकाशदेहो दीपः । 

The divine splendorous light of the Sat-Chit-Ananda exalted high by the Pavana is the 'Deepah'(offering fire lamp-light to deity).


समस्तयातायातवर्जनं नैवेद्यम् । 

Renunciation of all transmigration of souls from death to birth to death is 'Naivedyam'(food offerings to deity).


अवस्थात्रयैकीकरणं ताम्बूलम् ।

Consolidating the three states of consciousness into one- is 'Taambulam'(offering sweet betel leaf to deity).


मूलाधारादाब्रह्मरन्ध्रपर्यन्तं ब्रह्मरन्ध्रादामूलाधारपर्यन्तं गतागतरूपेण प्रादक्षिण्यम् । 

Commuting from Mooladhara to Brahma-Randhra and from Brahma-Randhra to Mooladhara- is 'Pradakshina' (offering of gifts, money et cetera to deity).


Note:- From Āvahan to Pradakṣiṇā are Internal Ṣaḍaśopachār Pujā Detailed 


तुरीयावस्थानं संस्कारदेहशून्यं प्रमादितावतिमज्जनं बलिहरणम् । 

Attaining the Turiya state (the transcendental state) and leaving the mortal human coil and thus being merged in Supreme Divine Bliss- this is Bali (sacrifice done to deity).  


सत्त्वमस्ति कर्त्तव्यमकर्त्तव्यमौदासीन्यमात्मविलापनं होमः । 

"Only Eternal Remains᳚- knowing this by immerging in own self from the indifference of notions of 'To do' and 'Not to do'- having this feeling is Homa (divine oblatory fire sacrifices).


भावनाविषयाणामभेदभावना तर्पणम् ।

Having equality in subject of all feelings, emotion, sentiments et cetera- is Tarpana (libation of water and offerings).


स्वयं तत्पादुकानिमज्जनं परिपूर्णध्यानम् ॥

Being submerged in meditation of ShreePaduka (the divine feet of deity)- is the real complete contemplation of deity.


Verse No. 9


एवं मूर्तित्रयं भावनया युक्तो मुक्तो भवति । 

In this way, he who is united with the sentiments of these three forms is easily liberated. 



तस्य देवतात्मैक्यसिद्धिश्चितिकार्याण्यप्रयत्नेन सिध्यन्ति स एव शिवयोगीति कथ्यते ॥

He effortlessly attains oneness of God and soul, and is then called 'Shiva-Yogi' meaning Ultimate Auspicious Mystic.

Here Completes the Great Upaniṣad
